About the event

This was our first time in new venue 83 Dalston Lane and we loved it. It seats just 20 guests so it was cosy and intimate - just perfect for good conversations around the table

Guest arrived for a welcome drink, then sat down for 3 fantastic courses prepared with love by Andi and the team. We introduced the concept of the ‘tip jar’ - where guests could put written suggestions of how we can improve or tell us what they particularly enjoyed about their evening.

One guest asked to for his note to be read out. You can read it too if you look below.

Menu

City Harvest delivered 3 large crate of amazing food they had rescued and we were delighted to find Beef Rump, organic pasta, fresh vegetables and so many treats. The menu was devised from this and a few extra’s were bought, but mostly we ate surplus food saved from being wasted.

Starter:
Roast Aubergine on Goat’s Yogurt, topped with fresh cherry tomatoes, pickled red onion and chilli, served with flat bread. (Vegan option also served)

Main:
Silken Tofu with Asian Spices or Pan fried Beef Rump on a bed of Spelt Tagliatelle and Julienne Vegetables

Desert:
Apple and Nut Cake served with Cream or Vegan Yoghurt on top and a Toffee Apple on the side. (the apples came from Louise’s garden)

Our Guests

Our guests were invited through Change Grow Live, Host Nation, Mind, Prisoners Abroad, The Richmond Fellowship and The Carers Network. We also welcome a paying guest (who had a wonderful time) and two of our hosts joined the table to ensure the conversation flowed and everyone had what they needed. The atmosphere was so warm and convivial. arranges for Churches to donate their Hall space for 1 night per week during winter as a night shelter.  Glass Door place homeless people at the shelter and provide support to help them off the street and into more permanent accommodation.

The Tip Jar

Here are a few of the tips we received:

Other Nice Words

“Just wanted to say thanks again for extending the opportunity to join Mike's Table. It was such a great experience - really lovely people and delicious food. And most importantly, Z really appreciated the opportunity to get out of his hostel and meet new people.”

It was such a wonderful evening at Mike’s Table. Louise and her colleagues really know how to create warm, friendly and relaxing atmosphere. Surrounded by total strangers, I felt among friends. For a few hours, all life’s problems seemed far away.“

J attended the event on Friday and he sent some lovely and heartfelt feedback, which he is happy for me to share with you. It gives a good reminder of how much of an impact this kind of warmth and human contact can make on people, especially our clients who are often feeling dislocated and isolated.”
