Come in from the cold

About the event
32 parishioners of St Margaret’s and other friends came together for a 3 course meal hosted by us. It was a lovely atmosphere.
Through their generosity we were able to put on the same evening for the Glass Door Night Shelter guests on the Sunday. The GD guests couldn't believe it when they came into the hall to see the tables laid out with flowers, candles and nibbles. Although St Margaret's parishioners always cook a lovely meal for them, they really enjoyed the extra special treats at Mike's Table; it felt special to them. And we thought they were very special too; strong and optimistic despite their circumstances. We met highly educated, articulate Morgan with his meticulously packed suitcase. A Mum and Son team with 'contagious' smiles, who offered to volunteer for MT once they get back on their feet, and a young teenage boy, wearing his school shirt and pants, homework in his bag, who loved the food so much he ate two main courses. Heartbreaking stories from people with incredible strength and dignity.
And, we were able to make a £300 donation to Glass Door.

More about Glass Door
Glass Door arranges for Churches to donate their Hall space for 1 night per week during winter as a night shelter. Glass Door place homeless people at the shelter and provide support to help them off the street and into more permanent accommodation.
Each night shelter resident arrives at 7.00pm for a hot drink and a meal at 8.00pm, then sleeps in the Church Hall and is given breakfast the next morning. The meals are prepared and served by volunteers with food donated by the congregation.
We were delighted to partner with St Margaret’s Church who run a Glass Door Shelter each Sunday evening throughout winter. We donated £300 to Glass Door to help them continue this precious work.
